My students are 5th graders that loved reading when they were in 4th grade. I had an opportunity to work with them when they were in 4th grade and enjoyed independent reading every day because they became so excited to read books of their choice. I was surprised to see that each and every student had different interests in subject matters. Even though my class has a variety of different backgrounds, they all share one thing in common. They love reading. I believe books help my students step away from their lives and become someone or something they aren't normally.
As a class, I want us to grow as readers and lovers of education. These books will continue to enhance my classroom that I long to create. Since I am a first year teacher, my classroom library is quite bare, but I know these books will definitely bring my students joy. My library will be a place where students can step away from their personal struggles and just relax regardless if it is independent reading, class read-aloud, or just working on the carpet. I have spent a lot of time observing my students to see which types of books they enjoy to read and felt the need to add them into the library.
