We have very few books in our classroom library that are age and reading level appropriate. My students want to read but cannot due to the fact that we have no classroom library. Students are not reading at home either because of the lack of books.
My students are 5th graders at an urban elementary school. It is a public school in a poor neighborhood. Being an urban school also means that the reading levels in my class range from grade 3-6. My students are constantly asking for popular books on action, fantasy, books geared toward young girls, etc.
This is an exciting group of girls who have that drive and will to learn but we need your help to get our motors running.
