Students are frequently asked why they don't read anymore. Many times we, as adults, blame their lack of interest in literature on video games and social media. And often, we're right.
But what if we're wrong? What if kids aren't reading because they don't have access? What if they're not reading because the books on our shelves are falling apart? What if they're not reading because the only books we offer are written by old, dead, white guys?
These books will change that. You will change that. We can change that. We can offer literature that is crisp, exciting, and relatable. These books might just compete with Fortnite and Snapchat, and will offer the understanding and acceptance that these sites often falsely advertise.
