Play is the highest form of research. -Albert Einstein
Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and youth.
Experts have explained the importance of allowing children the time to play in and out of school. Unfortunately, we are limited in the amount of time children are allowed free-play in schools.
In order to meet the needs of my students, I wish to create a maker space in my classroom. The children in my classroom will be given time to explore and play with Magna-Tiles, K'Nex, LEGO bricks, Lincoln Logs, and others. Students will be able to plan, problem solve, reflect, make decisions, learn from their mistakes, and experience success and pride all through playing and exploring. This will be a starting point on my journey to facilitate design thinking, creativity, stamina, and confidence within the maker space and embedded in project-based learning.
Our mindset is a powerful tool that needs to be nurtured and encouraged.
