Students in my class are transitional readers. They are transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. With these materials, they do not have to wait to go to the school library. They can read and recommend these books to other students in the class right away. There is nothing that motivates a child to read better than a heartfelt recommendation from a friend.
Think about all the conversations and social interaction they will have from just this one set of books! Children today do not get enough time to socialize with others and learn the art of speaking in front of their peers. Our bi-weekly book talks using literature from our class will promote the love of reading as well as better communication skills.
