I absolutely love the school I teach in, but the building is almost as old as me! When it was built in the 70s I'm sure it was absolutely up to date, but times and teaching practices have changed.
I try to bring a more interactive experience to my students using technology where it is prudent. When they updated my room to include a digital projector, they placed the projector right in front of a set of lights, which makes it very hard for students to see, due to the glare. Therefore I (or a designated student) have to constantly turn my lights on and off as we move through the class period.
My thought process it to completely eliminate my use of the ceiling lights, utilize the natural light I get from the windows and place two-floor lamps and two table lamps around my room so that my students can see and we don't have to waste time turning the lights on and off. It may seem simple, but it does become a waste of time as students have to readjust their eyes to see every time we go back and forth.
