Every student has a typical workspace in my classroom; a desk and a chair. However, sometimes they work better when they are allowed to choose their seats around the room. It is my goal to give every student in my room a flexible seating option.
Yes, a clipboard is flexible seating! By providing my students with wobble chairs, balance balls, wobble cushions, and even chipboards they are able to create a space they feel comfortable to work. When a student feels comfortable in their flexible seat they are burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increasing motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.
Simple in-class activities can boost performance. I have done research with studies that suggest children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially. When teaching a classroom with high energy, finding outlets for students to exert that energy can be difficult without the proper tools. With your donation, my students can get their wiggles out and have more focus on instruction.
