It’s no doubt that a lot of students struggle with poetry. In order to familiarize my students with poetry, we will read the first of the Crossover series, which is written in free verse.
Last year, a small group of students were put into a literature circle to read Restart. It was so popular among the class that I wish I had simply made it a novel study instead.
With both books, we will focus on the elements plot, point of view, perspective, and themes as we read about the main character, close in age to my students, as they face their own types of obstacles.
