Teaching a classroom of children with autism is such a privileged experience. I am learning that along with autism many of these children also experience significant anxiety throughout the school day. Imagine being asked to focus on a specific task while everything around you is loud, scary, or distracting. Anything I can do as their teacher to help them through these feelings and senses, I will do. Many of these items are to help calm them and bring them back from sensory overload. This will help so that they can concentrate and function within the classroom. And, lastly, take a deep breath and relax.
