Our students currently do not have a large number of outdoor resources to utilize within our school's gates. Students and teachers are forced to play in an outdoor public park outside of school property. This yields security issues and not all staff are comfortable bringing students there to play so the variety and opportunity to be fully engaged in outdoor play and exercise is limited. We do have a new playground but it is more age-appropriate for our Kinder and first-grade students. Our 2nd-5th graders are left to play in a large field with NO additional resources. In Florida, we do experience rain quite frequently which does result in the field being flooded for many days post-rain. This precludes the students from having that area to play outdoors in. The staff is then left to be "creative" and put on music videos to have the kids dance along. Dancing inside is less than an ideal way to encourage exercise and the outdoors.
