By doing activities as a class my students can learn how to work together. This is something that my students are working on. By having a variety of choices the students can learn to work together in different situations and not get bored of doing the same things over and over.
The students love to put together puzzles as well as build with LEGOs. We do not have a place to keep a larger puzzle (over 100 pieces) if it is not put together in one setting. This is something our students have said that they wish was possible.
My students are in the same classroom all day and with the same peers. Because they are not leaving the room, where they can get a brain break, they need things to do in the room to provide them with a break. We often run out of different things to do. So they become bored and that is often when behaviors begin to make an appearance. By giving them a choice of things to do they are more likely to take a productive break.
