In an English Language Arts class, having a plethora of books to read is a must. While I do keep my classroom library well-stocked and current, I would love to study the novel "Divergent" by Veronica Roth with my 7th graders. For this reason, I am requesting a class set of 30 novels. The literary analysis will include opportunities for student higher-level critical thinking, writing, and discussion.
My students already exhibit enthusiasm for the independent reading of the books in my classroom library. They also deserve an opportunity to study (as a class) material that is current, entertaining, and enriching. One of the things that I emphasize in my classroom is student engagement and collaboration. Knowing my students, I feel that the study of this fantastic work of dystopian fiction will generate thought-provoking questions, examination, and discussion. One of the focal points in my course is writing (informational and argumentative). I am positive that will use this novel as a means to produce writing that enhances their abilities to think critically.
