Imagine sitting in a class towards the end of the day, the teacher is doing their best to try and explain the importance of the Pythagorean Theorem, but your focus shifts to the grumbling in your stomach. You forgot your lunch today, or maybe your family is struggling financially, or perhaps you have 3 hours of band practice after school and you know it's going to be a while before you get to eat again...I have found that this is the case for so many of my kids at Doherty high school.
Providing snacks for students can help to alleviate the stress of a long school day and support their academic achievement.
Please consider donating to my most recent passion project called, "The Snack Shack." It is a simple cart I fill with snacks that any student can come and access for free at any time of the day. Through the "Snack Shack," students have a safe place to come eat, join in community, and fuel their academic success throughout the day!
