Together, during music, students and I experience music through songs, chants, speech, and the playing of instruments. We study the elements of rhythm and pitch, dynamics and form, and create music via composition and improvisation. Some of our music we read from books; other pieces we compose ourselves during class. My band students play their instruments and the choir sings from scores. We use our available classroom technology to display and manipulate music together through websites and music software. However, there is no way to display a printed song on a page, a written composition from a student, or an instrumental line of a band piece to the whole group without a document camera in the classroom, thus making the teachable moment that much harder to achieve.
The addition of a document camera would enhance the magical musical moments that occur as students interact with and create music, bringing their learning to a whole new level.
A document camera will provide new opportunities to visually highlight and manipulate printed and composed music live on the big screen as a whole group. This will encourage lively discussion and allow students to collaborate as they expand the meaning of the music in new visual ways with the use of the document camera. Please help provide my students with these amazing teachable music moments and make a difference in our music classroom.
