In occupational therapy we understand the need for breaks throughout the day in order to function at our best--Whether that be physical, cognitive or emotional breaks. Sensory breaks (also known as "movement" or "brain" breaks) are used to help kids increase their ability to self-regulate, increase their attention/focus, and set themselves up for better learning.
I am creating this project to provide all of the students at my school with access to sensory tools during their school day, beyond just the small percentage of students I see for OT sessions. Every grade level in the school will be provided with a "Sensory Break Box" in the open areas of their grade level/wing. This box will contain a variety of different sensory tools and visuals for students to access throughout their school day (with permissions from their teacher). Students will be able to experience the benefits of taking breaks throughout their day to keep their minds strong for learning.
