By creating colorful and exciting manipulative projects, I can incorporate the vocabulary my students so desperately need while teaching them basic science concepts.
Once I fill the vocabulary gap, my students’ mastery of the concepts immediately improves. I really need these materials to make this possible. The students love the supplemental activities, and they start to understand the concepts from the science book much better.
Additionally, I get my special students involved in creating the projects. As a result, they now are becoming instant “tutors” to others. So my hands-on techniques actually work in more ways than one. Win-win!
