This year my eight grades will be exploring Life Science. We will be covering everything from classification of living things to cells and DNA. It is important to me as a middle school teacher to give my students as many hands on opportunities as I possibly can. I usually do this through various STEM activities, however with cells I want them to have a hands on opportunity using a microscope.
A set of classroom microscopes will give my middle schoolers the opportunity to explore cells up close and personal. Many of these students have never had the opportunity to use a real microscope and this project will give them ample practice using this lab tool.
I plan on using the microscopes in class to have the students view different types of cells including many different plant and animal cells. It is important for them to have this basis of learning as many of them are interested in life science. Help me give them the opportunity to make science come alive and encourage their exploration and discovery.
