One of the most important goals I have for my students is to help them build relationships. Every day we gather on the carpet for our morning meeting. We learn how to talk to each other, how to listen to each other, how to ask questions and share ideas. We practice waiting and taking turns. During our morning meeting, we greet each classmate by name and welcome them to school. We are each given the opportunity to share what is important and on our mind that day. Our morning meeting area is a place for everyone to feel safe, secure, welcome and loved. A carpet for this area would provide the students a defined area where they begin to apply these skills and grow as students.
