As first graders, a lot of my students' learning is focused on verbal communication and hands-on tasks. As a building my school is focused on empowerment this year, meaning, giving students the chance to lead their learning. Student driven learning and exploration is the way that they learn best. This light table will be the perfect place for deep thinking, discovering, and discourse with other students. Meaningful conversations and purposeful exploration will allow for students to build their vocabularies. This is one of the biggest predictors in being successful as a reader in the future. We will build a richer vocabulary through math and science inquiry, color mixing, engineering with blocks and tiles, and more!
The light table will be a tool to spark engagement and empower students to be active participants in their learning. This will be another way to allow my students choice and voice in the learning process. As young learners it wouldn't be possible for them to build deep knowledge and understanding without manipulatives and hands-on tasks. I feel this light table will be an exciting tool to build that knowledge through communication, math, and science skills!
