The goal of this project is to give students a place in the classroom where they can regain control of their bodies when escalated. I want to put calming centers in each classroom with tools, such as pinwheels, putty, drawing supplies, and bubble timers, so students can quickly regroup and get back to focusing on their work. The resources being requested will help students enhance their ability to be in control and calm their bodies.
Regardless, of a person's career, one skill that all people need is the ability to self regulate and cope with adversity. Self-regulation allows a student to experience frustration but handle it in an appropriate way. Being able to teach students these skills helps them remain in the classroom more and sets them up for success! Students are taught various coping skills and these calm down centers will help students practice these skills and learn to rely on them when needed.
