We would like to purchase a classroom iPad cart with 32 iPads to be shared between the classes. Students will be able to collaborate with their peers while working on various projects throughout the school day.
Our school has a range of programs available for student use, we simply lack the hardware to utilize them. A few of the uses would be: research, online writing, blogging, Microsoft Notebooks, Kahoot, Close Reads, Scavenger Hunts, Virtual Escape Rooms, Tinker Box, QR Codes, Geo Board, and Sketch Pad; all of this free to us, we are simply lacking the means to access it.
We also have online access to the Reading, Language, and Math books, allowing the student to view missed material and additional information not available in the print material. In addition, the Reading text has a free app for the HMH Close Read component, providing additional passages and leveled skill practice for students. Finally, iPads will allow us to adequately save and work on cross-curricular projects. We currently have an annual Black History Month research project and STEM collaboration activity that the iPads would be very helpful with. Our hope is to incorporate additional projects that will link the classes.
The district has already provided professional development on all of these programs, but the initial enthusiasm to use these programs is quickly lost when faced with the lack of equipment needed to utilize each opportunity in the classroom. They would offer many more ways for collaboration than simply sitting in a group; skills that the students will be expected to have upon graduation. We would like to be able to try these things in the future and prepare our students for the world they will be thrown into.
