Students will gather into literature circles and discuss their novels and how it applies to finding their own voice. Literature circles will help motivate them and keep them accountable.
The diverse novel choices will encourage students to think about their own experiences and how they can be vehicles to empowerment. The novels students can pick from are as follows: Speak, All American Boys, Warriors Don't Cry, Peak, and The House on Mango Street.
Students will read their novels at home but then gather in the classroom for weekly discussions and activities that they complete in small groups.
