My class library is the focus of my classroom. I have tried to make it a place my students want to be with bean bags, a sofa, and other comfortable seating options. The books I hope to add to my library will add diversity to the collection. Many of the books show strong female characters, cultural diversity, and various writing styles and topics.
Relating to the characters or setting of a book can inspire a child to continue reading and to dream big dreams. A book can take a child to a place they may otherwise not be able to visit. A book can show a child who they can become as an adult. When a child feels alone, the right book will remind them that there are people in the world just like them. During difficult times, a book can take a child's mind to a better place and help them dream of the life they want to create. Books make us feel something. I want my students to feel the excitement, joy, laughter, humanity, connection, and inspiration from the books they will be able to read in my classroom.
