Close your eyes and picture a familiar place in your community. Now, imagine designing and building new structures in your community. My role as a STEM Outreach Specialist is to help students become problem solvers and bridge builders, to get "stuck" and "unstuck" and to develop plans for constructing new structures and improving technology in their community. LEGOS, straw constructors, and coding robots are key to teaching science, technology, engineering, and math. By having LEGO WeDo kits, Botley Coding Robots, and straw constructors, students will be able to code movement, build structures, and get a solid grasp of STEM-related concepts. The storybooks give insight into many important pioneers in computer science while promoting literacy in the STEM classroom. My students always show a remarkable interest in technology, and these books will only help enrich their experience by introducing them to the individuals who made technological advancements possible.
