I have a classroom of 18 students from various economic backgrounds. Half of my students are from single parent homes. We are in a high poverty area. I have 4 ESE students mainstreamed full time. One autistic boy (extremely bright). My children are learning to work cooperatively with children of all abilities. Many of my students do not have access to literature at home. They do not get much help from parents at home and lack motivation to excel. I would like to see them be at the top of the class and feel like superstars. Being able to teach my children about the world through literature would help their confidence and help them compete academically in the future. They just need to feel the taste of success!!
