Although the main focus of most lessons is academics, it's important to provide kids with the opportunity to grow emotionally as well. The Social and Emotional Learning workbook provides a year's worth of lessons that helps kids focus on understanding how their own mind works and how they can have control over harnessing their own potential. My students have a wide variety of backgrounds, home lives, and socioeconomic statuses, and not every student has the encouragement to delve into learning how their own mind works. My students often need that extra listening ear and need to feel understood, and this workbook will provide them with an extra opportunity to focus on the emotional side of themselves. My goal is for them to learn that they have more control over their mind than they may realize, and they can harness that power to maximize their potential. I'd like to provide each student with their own notebook for writing down responses and analyzing the lessons within the workbook. The notebook will be theirs to keep with them so they can take what they've learned beyond my classroom and into their lives.
