Too many times, students come to school without the necessary tools to be successful. They are often frustrated and internalize their feelings without knowing where and who the safe place is located. Students should never feel afraid of asking for basic things that are needed; pride of asking for help usually keeps them from doing so.
Our hope is that students will develop relationships with their school counselor and during discussions will ask for things that are needed. We want to build up a resource bank consisting of backpacks, notebooks and binders for our students so that they can come in and take things whenever it is convenient for them.
Students struggle to perform academically when they are stressed and overwhelmed with problems in and out of school. Aromatherapy has been shown to decrease stress and create a calm environment which we hope to create in the counseling office by using diffusers and essential oils. Appropriate, comfortable seating will also impact relationship building.
The conference phone will enable students to participate in meetings where they are unable to attend in person. This will allow for numerous individuals to provide feedback and collaboration with students and their families.
We want to create an environment that is nurturing and supportive and that, regardless of what they experiencing, can feel like another home. We want students to participate in any meetings where their voice and opinion can always be heard.
