Speech therapy is a diverse and exciting field. With that diversity comes challenges to meet the unique needs of each student. I primarily work on articulation (speech sounds), language (receptive, expressive, and social), as well as fluency (stuttering). Students working on articulation skills tend to use flashcards to practice, which can sometimes lead to inattention and frankly boredom. The Lakeshore Alphabet Sounds Tubs will give my students a break from flashcards! These mini objects will allow my students to practice their speech sounds with objects they are familiar with and can interact with. Objects tend to be more engaging for younger students and fun for older ones! They can also be used to screen children's speech sounds who have suspected speech impairments.
By donating to my project, you will help all of my students continue to be heard, better understood, and for some, find their voices! My students with the most significant needs have the biggest hearts and often have the most to say. I hope to start a Core Word of the Week program (with the Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards) for these students, in hopes of generalizing vocabulary and helping them find power in communication!
COVID has thrown a wrench in an already challenging field, but I know that my students can make progress in their communication! Digital materials to meet their needs will be paramount as we navigate this new normal. I appreciate your consideration of a donation in order to support my amazing students' communication!
