My students face challenges in a typical classroom learning environment. My class helps these students gain calming and self-regulation strategies while doing academics to help them overcome these challenges and get them back into the classroom with their peers!
In order to give them self-regulation skills, calming tools in our classroom are necessary! My students are coming into the classroom in small groups and cannot share the minimal number of tools we have. I would love to create each of them a calm-down toolkit, containing fidgets, timers, resistance bands for each chair, a yoga mat, and add an extra calm down corner with a bungee chair and sequin pillow, and two sensory spaces (water beads and sand station) to encourage social distancing when two students require a calm down space.
