I teach at a Title 1 middle school. With that often comes a whole host of challenges not seen in other schools. We have students from poverty. We have students whose family lacks or has little formal education. We have many whose first language is not English. Our students also under-perform on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) compared to the other middle schools in our school district (Sarasota) as well as in the state. As an educator, finding ways to engage students, especially with these obstacles, can be difficult. We need cool ways to grab their attention. We can do this in part by using the latest technology.
