Children are naturally curious about the world around them! In literature, as in life, representation matters! When children can see themselves in stories (mirrors) as well as others (windows), they personally connect to texts and learn more about the experiences of others. It is so important to have a diverse range of books available for children.
Young readers crave engaging and modern texts that reflect the world around them. Children are most excited about books when the characters, settings, and problems feel like they could happen in their own lives. Series books follow one character across multiple texts. The series books in this project will give reluctant readers a "path" to follow the characters that they have grown to love, therefore strengthening their comprehension with each new title! This project provides new and engaging titles from eight diverse sets of series, along with multiple copies of the same book so that readers can engage in discourse with one another through a book club about a common text.
