My vision is to have iPads in the English as a New Language (ENL) classroom.
I know that iPads will increase our English Language Learners’ (ELLs) overall learning and influence their overall motivation to acquire the English language. With iPads in the classroom, scholars will use them during activities such as the morning routine. During word work centers, students could listen to books being read aloud to them. When students in ENL class listen to readings, it can help with pronunciation of words and encourage them to read with voice.
Most importantly, iPads would engage the scholars and encourage them to learn. They would enjoy reading and listening to books on the iPad.
Our students would be able to use the iPads during their word work centers. They could use the devices to play games (apps) that focus on sight words, English vocabulary or practice how to correctly form letters. Each day, the apps could provide scholars with leveled, just right books. Students can also use app games to assist with math computation and math strategies.
The ENL classroom gives scholars the opportunity to follow a flexible seating plan. The students find an area in the classroom that works best for them. They decide to work where they feel most comfortable to learn. If the scholars had iPads, they would be able to easily move around the classroom and bring their devices to their "just right" learning area. The iPad cases would protect the iPads when moving throughout the ENL classroom.
I often use my own money to provide the necessary materials for my students. However, this is one component I simply cannot provide on my own. I strongly believe that iPads will be instrumental in improving the learning environment for my scholars!
