This school year has brought my twenty-year "traditional" teaching style to a halt. Being a virtual teacher has put a whole new spin on how I administer my lessons and how my students can practice the skills being taught. I use the visualizer while sharing my computer screen on a daily basis with my students who are virtual. Since I use the workshop model in spelling and in math, students use their smart pals or paper. Many of the students’ smart pals have become scratched and stained from frequent work which makes it hard for them to share their work by holding up their work to the computer’s camera. Some of the other problems include the student not being able to locate their smart pal, their markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and if they choose paper to use, that is even more difficult to see on the camera. When something goes awry, some students will be distracted (for a handful of my students have focusing issues) and they miss important instruction from either myself or other students. By having magnetic whiteboards and erasers, the students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
The whiteboards will allow the students easier access to practice their work. They will be able to write larger and clearer on a hard surface than they are used to. With the new materials, students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. This will increase their desire to learn!
