As a Language Arts teacher, I am always hoping that my passion for reading will rub off on my students. By the time they've reached middle school however, most of them have already decided that they either love or hate reading and are stuck in either of those mentalities.
Graphic novels entice reluctant readers to give books a second chance. The stories that are told through words and pictures inspire students to pick up one book...and then another...and then another until a newfound love of reading has been born.
These graphic novels that represent a diverse set of stories will allow my students to fall in love with books again or maybe even for the first time. My students will be able to see themselves in the novels and get a glimpse into worlds other than their own. It is my hope that through these stories, students leave my classroom eager to read and will be excited to pick up all types of books in the future.
