The materials will be used to help my students develop their fine motor and visual motor skills including prewriting, and scissor cutting. The process of completing crafts and playing specific games will provide opportunities to strengthen the children's arms, hands, and visual motor skills.
As an example, the use of tongs will strengthen the thumb and index finger/middle finger combination. This is the skill side of the hand. Skills such as fastening a button, holding a crayon/pencil, and opening and closing scissors will be improved by participating in activities using tongs. Removing and placing stickers from and onto a sheet requires index finger and thumb coordination as well as visual motor skills to place the stickers. We hope to create opportunities to develop these skills without the activity being grueling and unattractive to the children.
