Third and fourth grade students at Watershed, who have previously used recorders and melodicas to learn note-reading, need an alternative that is Covid-safe. They have made their own instruments out of recyclable materials since online learning began. These students have been dying to have a real instrument in their hands to bring to life all the theoretical learning and hard work they have done virtually. My students are patient, kind, and very deserving of the special treat of classroom ukes that other schools with bigger budgets can afford. Now that we have the opportunity to return to in-person learning, I want to give them something to be excited about in my classroom.
