Reading and access to books shouldn't keep my students from learning! I want my students to grow to love reading and strengthen their skills in literacy. Giving them access and exposure to as many genres and reading activities as possible will allow new opportunities to learn to love to read. Being a new teacher, I have a limited classroom library and my students need access to great books that will encourage them to read! My idea is to give students a large variety of books to read and an fun environment to encourage new reading. Students in my area don't generally pick up a book for enjoyment and I want to change that. I want to make every Friday be Flashlight Friday! Students will have a fun way of reading by reading in the classroom by flashlight! This promotes reading by creating a fun and inviting environment, as well as, gives students new opportunities to read a variety of books and maybe find a series they want to continue to read at home as well.
