I have been charged with the task of turning around our In-School Suspension (ISS) progam for the 2021-2022 school year. We offer ISS as an alternative to out of school suspension. I am hoping to create a space for restorative justice and provide Social Emotional Learning. We will connect with an on-site non-profit to provide wrap-around services such as counseling (for student and families), yoga, and therapy (individual/group). We are planning to offer community service opportunities for students, on-going professional development for faculty and staff, and support for our families. Students will also have support to complete work assigned by their teachers and receive one-on-one intervention, remediation, tutorials and support for classwork. We are hoping to minimize the amount of time students are out of class, support students affected by trauma as well as assisting all students recovering from this recent pandemic - social distancing, changes in families, dealing with loss.
