I want to build a library of sets of great books for my reading elective class. In class, students will join "book clubs" of four students and choose a book that they will all read simultaneously. Each student will read their book individually using in-class time and at home. Twice a week the groups will meet in class to discuss what is happening in the book and at the end of the book they will create a project together that is connected in some way to the book. When the group finishes a book, they will be able to choose a new book (that must be from a different genre). I did not ask for four of each of the books on this list because I already have some copies of certain books.
The more choices the students have in what books they read, the more passion for reading they will have.
