Early literacy and reading ability impacts students throughout their entire lives. As I have learned more about the Science of Reading, I have learned that children are best served by practicing texts that are controlled for phonics skills learned and mastered - aka decodable. There is an idea that they are "boring" or too predictable for students, but I know that's not true. Students LOVE to be successful, and having decodable texts allows them to "crack the code" and READ!
There is something special and better about having *real*, *printed*, *in color* books versus just a black and white piece of copy paper in their hands. They can easily store the books in their book boxes, enjoy them while reading to themselves, with a friend, or when they are with me as a teacher. When I meet with students we read the books together and then throughout the week reread them for deeper comprehension and writing connections.
Students enjoy seeing themes and characters repeat, and having a collection from the same publisher allows for those connections to be established. This set also includes teacher's manuals and a few extras for use with students in small groups. It would be a great addition to my classroom to support student's reading growth!
