The lab equipment will be integral in our lab investigations for separating mixtures. Homogenous mixtures can be separated by their properties such as boiling point, magnetism and particle size. The hot plates will allow students to separate solutions, like sugar and water using boiling. The magnetic wands would allow them to observe how iron filament can be separated from sand. These materials will allow students to observe this phenomenon hands on, instead of just seeing pictures in a textbook. It can be challenging for students to just visualize scientific concepts and it is so much more engaging for them to be able to experience it themselves.
