Throughout the school day, my first-grade students and I gather on our classroom rug for all the magic in learning that takes place. Lessons in language arts, math, and writing are taught where students listen to stories; read books; explore new ideas, and engage in conversation. One of the best parts of my day is when a child stands at the top of the rug surrounded by fellow classmates, and confidently reads aloud a story they wrote.
The classroom rug is a symbol of new and exciting ideas that are about to be introduced to my patiently anticipating, bright-eyed students! The calming earth-tone colors and pattern of this rug specifically will be the perfect spot for my students to gather and learn as a community. Their little minds can focus in a quiet environment on the lesson presentation and the individual squares will allow for each child to choose their personal space.
