Play is an important part of children learning and development. Play teaches students how to make their own decisions, learn self-control and how to take turns/share. These materials will provide add a variety of materials to support learning in the developmental areas of social emotional, math, literacy, science and social studies. The materials chosen for this project will help my preschool scholars engage in meaningful play during small group and center time activities. Due to lack of funding, there are very limited materials to build a classroom that's hands on and exploratory in nature. Research states, "manipulatives, in the context of education, are physical tools of teaching, engaging students visually and physically with objects such as coins, blocks, puzzles, markers, etc. The use of manipulatives is constructivist because students are actively engaged in discovery during the learning process".
