With being in a self-contained Autism classroom it is important for students to be have access to preferred activities in situations that are high stress. In my classroom, technology is the preferred activity. In situations like fire-drills and lockdowns it is important that they have a portable device to take with them to engage with.
Technology for these students allows the students to engage with materials in a way that they don't need verbal prompting from a teacher. An educational environment where the students can feel independent is my main goal. Giving student activities on the computer that help solidify the content and specified skills are going to reduce the frustration levels of students.
