Technology is everywhere!! Most of my students leave my classroom every day, and go home to an environment where they are surrounded by video games, cell phones, tablets, and television. I want them to know that there is a world out there that lets them express their creativity without the use of technology.
Every child needs the opportunity to play, to create, to learn!!
I chose to add board games, magnetic tiles, play doh, and building blocks to my wish list for many reasons. One reason is because it allows for them to be creative. Once their creativity shines, their stories will build and conversations will begin to take place. These activities are perfect for the many rainy days that they aren't allowed to go out and play.
Reading is important, but the only way a student is going to truly learn something from what they read is if they are reading content that they enjoy and in an area that makes them comfortable. The stadium chairs give them a choice in where they want to sit and read. I have hundreds of books in my classroom, but I am always looking for the opportunity to add the most recent books to my shelves.
My classroom should be a place that students feel comfortable learning. Many students leave bad situations at home to come to school every day. I want my room to be a place that they can destress and learn to the best of their ability. I feel that the sensory toys gives them the opportunity to relax while working. The key to a true sensory toy is finding one that won't distract them as they learn. Providing them with a wide variety options will help them find the RIGHT one for them!!
