Math manipulatives will help my students learn with concrete, hands-on experiences. My goal is to teach a lesson and then allow my students to rotate through math stations where they will get a chance to explore the topic of volume with a variety of math tools. This will give me an opportunity to work with small groups to reinforce the concepts we are learning as well as to provide enrichment for those who have already mastered them.
Working at hands-on math stations will keep my students engaged for our entire math period. This will help increase student achievement, excitement for math, and learning of new math concepts.
The kits will allow students to uncover volume concepts by building and deconstructing 3-D shapes. ? Measurement Center and Lakeshore L kit will be used in small groups to give students a visual grasp of measurement concepts like capacity and volume.
The can develops skills in measuring volumes, applying volume formulas, finding volumes of solid figures and adding volumes. The shapes will allow my high level students a chance to explore volume of figures other than rectangular prisms.
I will use our baseline and end-of-year county-wide I-Ready math assessment to measure growth in math concepts and computation. My goal is that 75% of participating students will improve their score from the baseline to year-end.
