For years students have been taught to memorize tricks and strategies to solve mathematical equations. Yet, mathematics require so much more: understanding, problem solving, reasoning, a persistent attitude and access to tools. Students at times can see showing their work as tedious and unnecessary, yet modeling and explaining their thinking is key to attain deeper understanding. Problems have a variety of solutions and good mathematicians will look for clues to draw conclusions and visualize the problem. Students will collaborate and learn from their gallery walks better as they jot down their visualizations on white board tables!
