I began using slant boards when my own daughter was struggling with reading and writing. She was slow to read and writing was very difficult. With symptoms mirroring that of Dysgraphia, I be began to research to find something that would help her to write more clearly and in turn help her to read her own writing.
The results were amazing. The slant board positioning helps her to better utilize the muscles in her hands which helps her to create more defined letters.
We will use these with my struggling students when they write essays or do research and take notes. We will also use these to annotate text by utilizing the whiteboard surface to make notes and write question.
With the success she had, I brought the slant board into my own classroom and began to have some of my students with similar issues use them. I have found improvement for all students across the board.
Our students have made great gains in the handwriting and there writing outcomes using these boards. As we have used these slantboards we have found so many more uses that would greatly REDUCE the amount of paper waste in our classroom essentially allowing us to go largely paperless.
