My students have been given a challenge to create a mouse trap car that can travel further than their peers. They will start with basic mousetrap car kits. They will use the engineering design process to research, design and build an enhanced mousetrap car using the kits, tools, materials and their designs. After building their mouse trap car designs, they will test their cars and make improvements to create one that can travel the furthest distance. These supplies will make a difference in my students learning. They will have everything they need to compete in our local SECME competition and hopefully make it to the national competition. During our club meetings, they will have an opportunity to use the tools and materials to bring their designs to life.
My students will not only be learning about the engineering design process, but will be getting a chance to complete projects using the process from start to finish. They will have to think of solutions of how they can solve a problem like creating a mouse trap car that can travel a great distance. They will create a design, build it, test it and improve their designs to get the best results.
