My wish would be to bring robotics and art into the classroom. I would like to do it in a specific way that supports the interest of not only my current students but to attract the interest of others, especially our females students. I will begin by starting my middle school students off with the pre-built computer-programmable Edison robots that are great for beginners. This would support our STEM/STEAM program tremendously by giving students fun and engaging technology with a real-world purpose.
These robots can be used in different yet engaging ways that support peer-collaboration, friendly competition, and creative themes. I am extremely excited to incorporate art by coding the robots to create specific patterns and even decorate the robots to represent student interests. Students want to feel like they belong and there is no better way than giving them a sense of ownership and identifiability. They get to build, design, personalize, code and test!
